About

The Battlement Jeep Trail is 4.3 miles long and gains 2,000 feet of elevation. The route is extremely rough, rocky, and steep, and is recommended for experts only. Trail features include steep scree slopes and mud bogs. Scenery along the trail includes open meadows, stands of spruce & aspen, and wildlife viewing opportunities. The trail is open to motorized and non-motorized uses, though motorized access is recommended for OHVs or other high clearance, 4 wheel drive vehicles only. The Jeep Trail begins at the Battlement Trailhead [https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/whiteriver/recarea/?recid=41181] and ends at the Battlement Reservoirs. The Battlement Reservoirs are a chain of seven man-made lakes located in a spectacular mountain setting. Outstanding fishing and primitive camping opportunities are available at this location. En route to the Reservoirs, the Jeep Trail intersects the Battlement Trail (#2160) [https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/whiteriver/recarea/?recid=41173] at 2.2 miles and the Lava Creek Trail (#2160.5) [https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/whiteriver/recarea/?recid=41177] at 4.0 miles. Both intersecting trails are open to foot and horse use only. The lower part of the Jeep Trail crosses through private property. Please respect nearby landowners by staying on the trail and refraining from littering. Stay alert for trail signs and navigation markers. The trail crosses an oil & gas access road at approximately 0.25 miles.  View the Recreation Opportunity Guide [http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd603527.pdf] and Map [http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd617728.pdf] for the Battlement Jeep Trail (.pdf documents)
