McKay Creek Trail

The trail crosses Alaska State land before entering the White Mountains National Recreation Area. It is maintained in the winter and is popular for snowmobiling, skiing, dog mushing, and fat biking. The winter trail is often used to access to the Cache Mountain Cabin (20 miles) and Richard's Cabin (21 miles). From the Steese Highway, the trail climbs steeply for 5.5 miles to a ridge top and then follows open ridgeline for two miles before descending through spruce forests and open meadows to junction with Lower Nome Creek Trail. McKay Creek Trail continues to descend to cross Ophir Creek. Trail will climb steeply to a ridge before dropping again to Beaver Creek. Trail continues in lowlands to Trail Creek Trail.
