About
Our tipis (spelled the way the natives spelled it) were made by the Nomadic Tipi builders. They are authentic Sioux-style tipis and are set up just as they were hundreds of years ago, using the exact same procedures.
Stepping through the door will bring you back in time and allow you to experience some of the aspects of this unique nomadic culture of the Great Plains Indians many moons ago. Tipis were constructed so that the plains indians could move from place to place and not have to rebuild their homes...they carried them with them. Within hours a community could be broken down and ready to move to where the food sources were more plentiful. When a new location was found, the tipis would be raised again with little effort. What could be more fun than sitting together in a pow-wow with your friends and family, in a tipi, under the stars!
The MATO Tipi is the Bear Tipi (Mato means Bear in Lakota Sioux). Uniquely painted exterior design with the symbol of the bear, also native to Big South Fork.
