About
ROUGH ROAD but HUGE VIEWS.
High clearance and All-Terrain tires strongly recommended as the roads are very rocky. 4x4 recommended but not 100% necessary in dry conditions. Roads are sometimes steep and rutted/washes out.
There are a number of campsites on the way up (pull offs with fire pit), some are not very level. It took about 1 hr driving on the ruff road to get to this pinned location, which is at the very top of a mountain pass.
360° views down to Salt lake to the west and views to the Wasatch range on the east. A few nearby sites up FR815 have shade but most do not. You’re at 8,100 feet so temps are about 10- 20° cooler than SLC.
Site is extremely dirty, littered with glass and bullet casings. People use this area OFTEN for target practice and ATV/Dirt bike riding. Having said that, let’s clean it up! It’s too beautiful a location to be treated this way. We can set an example!
Even with heavy use this place feels isolated. An occasional distant gunshot or dirt bike is really no big deal, but be aware of this regardless. The horse flies during the day are more annoying. :)
Also - multiple hikes right from camp, and great cell service!
Please take extra garbage with you if you can, and be sure to LEAVE NO TRACE of your own. (Pack Out or burry poop far from camp please!)

Very rough road - AT tires are recommended. Horse flies were strong during the day when there was no wind. The views are so worth...
