Loads of camping in the Sheyenne Natl Grassland, this is just one string of spots near McLeod (we recommend the Silver Prarie Saloon for a cheap pint). To access, make sure you take railroad st our of town, our GPS took us down 149 1/2 Ave which was wrong for this particular spot. You cross the tracks once, then stop at the second tracks crossing and get out to open the barbed wire fence and enter the grasslands. This is perfectly legit even though it feels kinda weird! The fence is for keeping in cows and sheep that live here, so close it behind you. From there, follow the trail as far as you want, and you can camp anywhere within 30ft off the trail (if the trail is hard to see you can flick on satellite view and follow it that way). Watch for some slightly marshy areas off trail if you do venture farther than 20ft or so. Check out the Sheyenne Natl Grassland gov website for more info. Pets are allowed, leashed. The train went by a few times through the night but wasn't that loud. Heard coyotes and watched some fantastic stars. Greeted at sunrise by a lone bull. Really beautiful spot!
