very large open dry lake bed. close to Joshua tree entrance - nice alternative to camping inside the park.
It much to add that others haven’t said. Tons of space and good cell signal. Exposed and can be windy. Can’t beat free, though. ✌🏼
Quiet, lots of spots.
Fun fact: this area is NOT public land. Use GaiaGPS or any other GPS app with a public land overlay. The BLM land is further north and east.
Love that this is here! Free, easy, and great cell signal. Not too far from town and park to go climb.
Copied the coordinates and used Gaia GPS like the previous poster suggested. Then went to BLM website just to be sure. Both say this is BLM. Also checked the private land overlay just to be sure there is no private land to cross to get there. See pic, circled in red is the dry lake bed.
In the time of Covid when all national parks in California are close for camping there is no better. In our experience after being alone for a very long time you come across this moon like surface with hundreds and hundreds of people living out of their vans, RVs, trucks, and campers. Literally more spots then you could count is the worlds largest van parking lot.
Stayed here 2 nights and it worked out very well for us. The dirt road is not very bumpy at all so even with a basic vehicle you will be fine. There’s many different ways you can go and everyone was very spread out (mind you we camped on a weekday). The view at sunset is one you won’t want to miss and the sunrise is even better. Pros: - Service is great - Privacy is great - views are A+ - can hear coyotes howling in the distance Cons: - no shade
Absolutely loved this spot. Wide open space but plenty of room for privacy as vehicles respect the 100ft courtesy distance from other groups. Coming in was somewhat bumpy but most rigs could get back here. Saw plenty of camper trailers and an RV or two. This would definitely be a sketchy spot during or after rain, so consider that. And, there is a fair amount of trash, glass, nails, etc so be prepared to swap out a tire if you get unlucky (but overall this was not a huge threat) and wear shoes around your parking spot at least at first. Coyote activity in the nearby mtns at night so keep smelly things inside cars overnight and keep an eye on any four-legged companions after dark. Yes people come here to drive OHVs and shoot guns into the hillside, welcome to BLM land. If you don't mind the noise in the daytime there's no issue. Regardless, we loved every moment of the 4 days and 3 nights we spent here, and we would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Was a great place to sleep over night so much space to park. Though last night people were playing loud music til 3am 😶.... Love that it's close to Joshua Tree and easy access.
Great spot. Great service. Close to town & the park. Can’t be beat. For the love of god pick up after yourselves so they don’t shut this down!
It was a perfect spot for my solo trip to Joshua Tree. There was a lot of space and for all the people it accommodated.
Nice quiet spot
