About

The Charlotte Museum of History serves as a welcoming and inclusive environment to explore issues of regional importance enlightened by our past so that together we may imagine our future. The museum offers audience-focused programs and exhibits, based on the people, buildings, stories, and objects spanning the region's history, while providing an historic context for understanding how past conditions and decisions impact the region today and shape its future. The Charlotte Museum of History is a regional history center, focusing on the southern Piedmont of North Carolina and the upper Piedmont of South Carolina. The museum?s ten acre, park-like campus includes the Hezekiah Alexander House. Built in 1774, the house is the oldest home in Charlotte, North Carolina. The fully restored house is surrounded by outbuildings, including a barn, kitchen and springhouse. Separate from the house, the two and half year old museum building contains 36,000 square feet of exhibit halls, public spaces and offices. Three permanent galleries, 2,500 square feet of temporary exhibit space, and a Hands-On History room are located here.
