About
Squaw Trail, a local favorite, climbs the Vermilion Cliffs to the north of Kanab, UT, ascending 800 feet in 1.4 miles.
The trail offers expansive views of Kanab and the plateaus of northern Arizona as it zig-zags up a series of switchbacks before ending at a picnic table. From there, hikers can continue down the semi-maintained Connector segment of the Cliffs-Connector Trail or simply turn around and hike back to the trailhead.
Squaw Trail is open to foot traffic only; bicycles, stock, and motorized vehicles are not allowed. Dogs are welcome, but their waste must be packed out. The trailhead offers parking and an informational kiosk but no other amenities. For more information and detailed maps, visit the Kanab Visitor Center (BLM) in Kanab, UT.
Squaw Trail is primarily clay based. Please refrain from using the trail when it is wet or snow covered to protect the trail surface. Heavy rain can dislodge boulders and debris; use caution when hiking the trail after a heavy rainfall.
